The “Philosophy of Action” is in action, just like the Philosophy of Love is in Love, and the Philosophy of Thought is Thought herself which is the philosophy proper, as it is thought, taught, conceptualized, and communicated. Aristotle was a philosopher, the “action” per se did not interest him that much. Alexander the Great, his student, was an “Action Man” who conquered the World. Marcus Aurelius the Roman Emperor and part-time philosopher, observed that “conquerors are robbers”.

Just zink about it: the Thought – Action – Thought  cycling circle.

The Philosophy of Act as an Intelligence Operation remains an unexplored subject.

It is here also that Bakhtin introduces an “architectonic” or schematic model of the human psyche which consists of three components: “I-for-myself”, “I-for-the-other”, and “other-for-me”. The I-for-myself is an unreliable source of identity, and Bakhtin argues that it is the I-for-the-other through which human beings develop a sense of identity because it serves as an amalgamation of the way in which others view me. Conversely, other-for-me describes the way in which others incorporate my perceptions of them into their own identities. Identity, as Bakhtin describes it here, does not belong merely to the individual, rather it is shared by all.[17]

Although Bakhtin was active in the debates on aesthetics and literature that took place in the Soviet Union in the 1920s, his distinctive position did not become well known until he was rediscovered by Russian scholars in the 1960s.

Михаил Бахтин: противоречие персонализма и тоталитаризма

mikenova shared this story from Радио Свобода.

Salisbury poisoning: UK experts cannot prove novichok nerve agent used on Skripals came from Russia, MoD says

mikenova shared this story .

Accusations and recriminations between Britain and Russia are set to escalate with the news that scientists at the Porton Down military research facility have been unable to establish exactly where the novichok nerve agent used to carry out the Skripal attack was manufactured.

The admission comes the day before Moscow convenes an emergency meeting of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague in which it is expected to demand access to samples from the Salisbury poisoning for analysis by Russian scientists.

Russia’s embassy in London responded that Porton Down’s assessment “proves that all political declarations on the Russian origin of the crime are nothing but assumptions not stemming from objective facts or the course of the investigation”.

The development also comes after Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, suggested that British intelligence services carried out the attempted assassination of the former MI6 agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia and claimed that it had proved “beneficial” in distracting attention from Theresa May’s government having to make major concessions to the European Union on Brexit.

The OPCW is due to present its own conclusions on the nerve agent in the near future. It remains to be seen whether it will be able to provide definite proof that the novichok came from a Russian government facility or echo the Porton Down position.

Gary Aitkenhead, the chief executive of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) at Porton Down, Wiltshire, told Sky News that the substance required “extremely sophisticated methods to create something only in the capabilities of a state actor. We were able to identify it as novichok, to identify that it was military-grade nerve agent.”

Mr Aitkenhead went on to say: “We have not identified the precise source, but we have provided the scientific info to the government who have then used a number of other sources,” some of them intelligence-based.

The head of Porton Down denied claims that his research centre had been connected in any way with a “false flag” operation or that the novichok used may have come from it. “There is no way that anything like that would ever have come from us or leave the walls of our facilities,” he said. “We deal with a number of very toxic substances as part of the work that we do.”

There has been no immediate reaction from the Kremlin on the Porton Down assessment, but there is little doubt that it will be used to support its claims that UK has no real evidence to back up the accusation of Russian state culpability in the attack.

Speaking of the OPCW emergency meeting, Yury Filatov, the Russian ambassador to Ireland, said: “We hope to discuss the whole matter and call on Britain to provide every possible element of element of evidence they might have on their hands. Russia is interested in establishing the whole truth of the matter and we hope certainly that this meeting will help to return to at least the realm of normality within the realm of international law and decency in international matters.”

A British government spokesperson insisted that the Porton Down assessment was “only part of the intelligence picture”. He continued: “As the Prime Minister has set out in a number of statements to the Commons since 12 March, this includes our knowledge that within the past decade, Russia has investigated ways of delivering nerve agents probably for assassination and as part of this programme has produced and stockpiled small quantities of novichoks, Russia’s record of conducting state-sponsored assassinations and our assessment that Russia views former intelligence officers as targets.

“It is our assessment that Russia was responsible for this brazen and reckless act and, as the international community agrees, there is no other plausible explanation.”

Twenty-nine countries and Nato carried out a mass expulsion of almost 150 Russians working under diplomatic credentials after Britain provided information that pointed to Vladimir Putin’s government as responsible for Salisbury attack.

“Unprecedented levels of intelligence” had been divulged to convince these states, said senior government officials, including conclusions of Porton Down and an explanation of how this was obtained.

However, in addition, highly classified information, which is normally shared only between the “Five Eyes” countries – the UK, the US, Australia, New Zealand and Canada – was supplied to close allies with the national security adviser, Sir Mark Sedwill, taking it to the European Union and the North Atlantic Council. Other countries were given differing levels of intelligence.

The development came as a former Russian general warned the response to the Salisbury the attack could trigger “the last war in the history of mankind”.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Evgeny Buzhinsky said the West was “cornering Russia and to corner Russia is a very dangerous thing”.

He added: “If the situation develops in the way it is now, it will end up in a very bad outcome.”

Second Sergei Skripal ‘poisoner’ identified as Russian military doctor

mikenova shared this story .

Petrov Bashirov RTAlexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov told RT’s editor-in-chief they had nothing to do with the Skripals’ poisoning. September 12, 2018. RT News

  • The second man believed to be behind a nerve agent attack in Salisbury, England, has been identified as a Russian military doctor.
  • Investigative news outlet Bellingcat has tracked down what it says are the true identities of the two suspects, who claim they were only tourists.
  • The attack, which targeted ex-spy Sergei Skripal, is believed to have been ordered by senior Russian leadership.

The second man accused of being behind the nerve agent poisoning of Sergei Skripal has been identified as a Russian military doctor employed by the GRU, the Russian military intelligence service.

The UK in early September accused two Russian men, Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov, of attempting to assassinate ex-spy Sergei Skripal with a military-grade nerve agent in Salisbury, England in March 2018. UK Prime Minister Theresa May said the names were most likely aliases.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose government has long denied having any knowledge of the attack, initially claimed that the two men’s names “mean nothing to us,” then said that they were civilians.

Petrov and Boshirov even appeared on Russian TV to say they were visiting Salisbury as tourists.

But investigative journalism site Bellingcat has dug into the backgrounds of “Petrov” and “Boshirov,” and says it has identified both men’s true identities and that they work for the GRU.

On Monday, Bellingcat reported that the real name of “Petrov” is Dr. Alexander Yevgenyevich Mishkin, “a trained military doctor in the employ of the GRU.”

Mishkin trained as a military doctor before joining the GRU, moving to Moscow in 2010, and being assigned the undercover identity of Alexander Petrov, Bellingcat says, citing both public documents and unnamed sources.

In late September, Bellingcat reported that “Boshirov” is actually Col. Anatoliy Chepiga, a highly decorated officer with the GRU, Russia’s intelligence service.

Chepiga, 39, had been assigned the alter ego of Boshirov by 2010, Bellingcat said. This was the name used in his passport when he traveled to the UK earlier this year.

Bellingcat’s findings also cast doubt on Russia’s claims that Boshirov and Petrov were civilians and that the government had no knowledge of the Skripal attack.

The findings are also in line with the British government’s claim, citing security and intelligence agencies’ investigations, that Boshirov and Petrov were officers from Russia’s intelligence services.

May has also said that authorization for the attack “almost certainly” came from senior members of the Russian government.

The UK has issued international arrest warrants for the two men, London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed in a statement to Business Insider. However, Russia does not extradite its nationals.

Second Skripal poisoning suspect named as ‘Russian GRU doctor’

mikenova shared this story from Yahoo News – Latest News & Headlines.

London (AFP) – Investigative group Bellingcat on Monday identified the second suspect in the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal as a doctor employed by Moscow’s GRU military intelligence service.

The Kremlin has rejected past charges about its involvement in the case as fabrications aimed at discrediting Russia.

Yet analysts will read Bellingcat’s latest publication for more clues into the alleged workings of a Russian spy agency at the centre of several international disputes.

“We have now identified ‘Alexander Petrov’ to be in fact Dr. Alexander Yevgenyevich Mishkin, a trained military doctor in the employ of the GRU,” the British-based group said in a report published on its website.

Skripal and his daughter Yulia were poisoned by a Soviet-designed chemical agent called Novichok in the English town of Salisbury in March.

Britain accuses the Russian government of trying to kill Skripal in retribution for his ongoing work with European intelligence agencies.

Russia says Britain has no proof.

The Skripal case and last week’s revelations that the GRU also allegedly tried to hack into the world’s chemical weapons watchdog in the Netherlands have further tattered Moscow’s strained ties with the West.

Bellingcat became a thorn in the Kremlin’s side by detailing its alleged crimes during the wars in Syria and Ukraine.

It worked with the Russian investigative team at The Insider to name the first of the two Skripal suspects as GRU agent Anatoly Chepiga last month.

Bellingcat said Chepiga was decorated in 2014 with the nation’s top award in a secret ceremony at the Kremlin.

“While Alexander Mishkin’s true persona has an even sparser digital footprint than Anatoly Chepiga’s, Bellingcat has been able to establish certain key facts from his background,” it wrote.

The group showed an apparent scan of his real national ID card — called a passport in Russia — from 2001.

Mishkin was identified there as having been born in July 1979 in the northwestern region of Arkhangelsk.

Bellingcat said he graduated from one of Russia’s elite Military Medical Academies with the qualification to become a doctor for the Russian naval armed forces.

“During his medical studies, Mishkin was recruited by the GRU, and by 2010 had relocated to Moscow, where he received his undercover identity — including a second national ID and travel passport -– under the alias Alexander Petrov,” Bellingcat said.

Mishkin was said to have made repeated trips to Ukraine and had even stated the GRU headquarters as his home address.

Bellingcat said it gathered its information from open sources and ‘testimony from people familiar with the person’.

– Bizarre interview –

The two suspects gave a bizarre interview to a Russian TV channel after the UK government released CCTV footage of their trip to Salisbury around the very time the Skripals were poisoned.

They explained that they went to the small town as tourists and had always wanted to see its tower.

The interview was not only widely mocked but also left security analysts at a loss to explain why Russia would stage-manage their hapless TV appearance in the first place.

One theory suggested by British intelligence was that Russian President Vladimir Putin wanted to publically punish the two men for both fumbling their assignment and getting caught.

Putin added to the mystery by unleashing a fresh attack on Skripal at an energy forum in Moscow last week.

“He is just a scumbag,” Putin said of Skripal. “He is just a spy, a traitor to the homeland.”

Putin was himself a foreign intelligence officer who was based in the German city of Dresden in the years leading up to the Soviet Union’s collapse.

“Life is a cabaret, old chum; Life is a cabaret…” | “When Sun Is Silent…” | “Mi ripigneva là dove ’l sol tace” – “Salis Bury! No Salir! No Exit!” This reality show is performed in the genre of cabaret, with The Demiurge playing the role of the invisible, omnipotent, omniscient, obsessive-compulsive, meticulous, artistic but talantless, pedantic Master of Ceremonies.

And he left his signature too, as usually: “Boshirov” and “Petrov”: Boshi (the Germans) and their Pet, ROV:

“Russkoye Osvoboditelnoye Voinstvo – The Russian Liberation Army” (the military-political movement of the Soviet POW-s in alliance with Nazi Germany during WW2, which was exploited and most  likely created by Abwehr).

“Salis Bury! No Salir! No Exit!”

Also: “Salus (Health) Bury”!

It looks like The Demiurge was trying to establish the communications with “Yours Truly” for some time, already; I found to some surprise.

Salis Bury! Phonetically: Solis bury: Bury your sun!

That’s what he says: Bury your sun, I have a lot of “Novichok” for all of you, including your “Salis Transportation” which replaced the Bout Airlines. (Khe-Khe…) Choke, Noviy (Nova)! Noviy, choke! Novyi choke for you.

Viktor Bout and the Far West Group (just like the more extended circle of the Andropov-Tsvigun’s “Jungers”, read all that pseudo-romantic greedy KGB brood) were probably the clients, fronts, and covers for the Abwehr The Demiurge which confirms the hypothesis of their masterminding of the 9/11.

The Demiurge is the owner of the Black Cat  Cabaret (Rodolphe Salis), and they have a lot of black cats in the store, to run to the left, right, and all the other possible directions and to to threaten and to cause all sorts of “bad luck” and other calamities. Here they run the Salis’ black cat between Great Britain and Russia.

This reality show is performed in the genre of cabaret, with The Demiurge playing the role of the invisible, omnipotent, omniscient, obsessive-compulsive, meticulous, artistic but talantless, pedantic Master of Ceremonies.

I want to see you naked, Demiurge, and in your prison cell, unless you write the real good memoirs for us, you old German geisha.

Louis Rodolphe Salis[1] (29 May 1851 – 20 March 1897) was the creator, host and owner of the Le Chat Noir (“The Black Cat”) cabaret (known briefly in 1881 at its beginning as “Cabaret Artistique.”) With this establishment Salis is remembered as the creator of the modern cabaret: a nightclub where the patrons could sit at tables with alcoholic drinks and enjoy variety acts on a stage, introduced by a master of ceremonies who interacted with the audience.

Historical associations[edit]

Superstition, prejudice, bringer of good or bad luck[edit]

The folklore surrounding black cats varies from culture to culture. The Scots believe that a strange black cat’s arrival to the home signifies prosperity. In Celtic mythology, a fairy known as the Cat Sìth takes the form of a black cat. Black cats are also considered good luck in the rest of Britain and Japan.[5]Furthermore, it is believed that a lady who owns a black cat will have many suitors.[6] In Western history, black cats have typically been looked upon as a symbol of evil omens, specifically being suspected of being the familiars of witches, or actually shape-shifting witches themselves. Most of Europe considers the black cat a symbol of bad luck, particularly if one walks across the path in front of a person, which is believed to be an omen of misfortune and death. In Germany, some believe that black cats crossing a person’s path from right to left, is a bad omen. But from left to right, the cat is granting favorable times.[7] In the United Kingdom it is commonly considered that a black cat crossing a person’s path is a good omen.[8]

NATO confirms Volga-Dnepr notice to quit SALIS ǀ Air Cargo News

mikenova shared this story from aircargonews.net.

NATO has confirmed the withdrawal of a Volga-Dnepr subsidiary from its contract for Strategic Air Lift International Solution (SALIS), which provides An-124 freighter uplift for the western military alliance.

A spokesperson for the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) told Air Cargo News: “Since 2006 the NSPA has contracted for airlift to assist an international consortium of nations in meeting their requirements for outsize cargo airlift.

“These services have been operating for more than a decade and currently two separate contracts are in force to support the Support Partnership nations under what is known as the Strategic Air Lift International Solution or SALIS.

“The SALIS is an international consortium which includes 10 nations: Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia.”

The NSPA spokesperson continued: “The current contracts were signed on 1 January 2017 – one with Antonov SALIS GmbH and a second one with Ruslan SALIS GmbH. These contracts are in force until the end of 2018.

“NSPA has been informed by Ruslan SALIS that they will not continue their service beyond the terms of their current contract which will remain in force until the end of 2018.”

“NSPA is currently working with the SALIS nations to explore options to meet their future airlift requirement from January 2019 onward.”

NSPA is unable to provide additional information at this time.

Two An124-100 aircraft, one each from the two freighter airlines, have been stationed permanently at Germany’s Leipzig/Halle airport since March 2006 as part of the SALIS Project.

More aircraft are also made available at short notice, when required, to provide airlift for EU and NATO countries.

Russia’s Volga-Dnepr Group said in a statement: “In line with our corporate strategy, Volga-Dnepr Group is focused on the growth of its business in the civil commercial sector and continuing to extend the scope of its niche products.

“We have been gradually withdrawing from the military logistics transportation market in due compliance with our previous commitments.

“The Group will not participate in the tender process initiated by NATO in its existing configuration, but we are open to continued cooperation with all organizations engaged in the transportation of humanitarian cargoes, and for future participation in disaster and emergency recovery programs.”

During their annual spring meeting in Brussels in June 2003, NATO Ministers of Defence signed letters of intent on strategic air- and sealift. Eleven nations signed the letter of intent on airlift: Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Portugal and Turkey. At the June 2004 Istanbul Summit, Defence Ministers of 15 countries signed a memorandum of understanding to achieve an operational airlift capacity for outsize cargo by 2005, using up to six Antonov An-124-100 transport aircraft. In addition, the Defence Ministers of Bulgaria and Romania signed a letter of intent to join the consortium.

In January 2006, the 15 countries signed a contract with Ruslan SALIS GmbH, a subsidiary of the Russian company Volga Dnepr, based in Leipzig.

In March 2006, the 15 original signatories were joined by Sweden at a special ceremony in Leipzig to mark the entry into force of the multinational contract. The contract’s initial duration was for three years but this has now been extended until the end of 2014. Finland and Poland have also now joined the SALIS programme. The SALIS contract was re-competed in 2012 and Ruslan SALIS GmbH was rewarded a new two-year contract (2013/2014) with options to extend until December 2017.

Volga-Dnepr and Ukraine’s ADB provide the SALIS aircraft and also provide AN-124-100 aircraft to support the Afghanistan mission, with weekly sorties from Europe to Afghanistan and back, under contractual arrangements with NATO Support Agency (NSPA).

The capabilities of SALIS will play a big role in on-going Afghanistan re-deployment.

Third Russian Possibly Involved in Salisbury Poisoning

mikenova shared this story from Voice of America.

British investigators now say a third Russian military intelligence officer was involved in the poisoning in March this year of former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in the southern English cathedral town of Salisbury.

Officials say the officer, who they suspect of carrying out reconnaissance for the nerve agent attack, has been identified by the British security services. At this stage, they say, they are not releasing his name – neither the alias he might have used nor his real identity.

The disclosure comes as Kremlin officials downplayed the unmasking earlier this week of one of the suspects in the attack as a decorated colonel in the GRU, the Russian military intelligence service.

Col. Anatoliy Chepiga, a GRU veteran who is believed to have served in an elite special forces unit in Afghanistan as well as in Chechnya and Ukraine, received Russia’s top military honor, Hero of the Russian Federation, in 2014. It may have been bestowed on him personally by Russian President Vladimir Putin, say security analysts.

Chepiga was seen laughing on CCTV footage released earlier this year by the British authorities as he and a colleague, who used the alias Alexander Petrov, sauntered along a Salisbury street March 4 soon after the poisoning of Skripal, a former Russian agent who defected to Britain.

The two men have claimed they are sport nutritionists and in an interview, ridiculed by the British media and government, with the Kremlin-directed RT network, insisted they had gone to Salisbury, twice, to see the cathedral’s spire and ancient clock. Their first day trip was a failure because of slush and snow, they said, although according to weather data there was no snow in the cathedral town on March 3.

The investigative journalism consortium Bellingcat, along with the news-site The Insider, say they have identified the decorated veteran, who used the alias Ruslan Boshirov, by trawling through open-source records of the graduates of Russian military academies and then matching his photograph. Leaked data of Chepiga’s real passport provided final proof.

‘Fake news’

The Russian Foreign Ministry says the Bellingcat identification is “fake news.”

And Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Thursday: “Like you, we are just learning of this investigation in the media released that talks about certain people resembling certain other people.” Other Kremlin officials say many people resemble each other.

Chepiga’s apparent identification as one of the likely culprits of the assassination attempt using the rare toxin Novichok leaves in tatters the Kremlin claim that it had no involvement in the attack, say British officials. His seniority in the GRU, they argue, suggests the attack was sanctioned from the top of the Kremlin.
Bellingcat says aside from its own open-source probe, “multiple sources familiar with the person and/or the investigation have confirmed the suspect’s identity.” British officials say they have no dispute with the identification. But they are not officially confirming it and have not said in detail why, arguing they are unable to for security reasons.

Locals in Chepiga’s home village, Berezovka, 640 kilometers east of Moscow in the Amur region, interviewed by the Russian newspaper Kommersant, confirm the identification and say they knew it was him even before the Bellingcat investigation. They say they recognized him from the CCTV footage British authorities released. Kommersant says the locals spoke on the condition of anonymity, fearing retribution.

“Yeah, that’s Tolya,” one woman told the newspaper, using Chepiga’s nickname. She says he was a disciplined youth. “He didn’t drink, didn’t smoke, and never got involved with any bad crowd,” she said.

Security analysts say it is possible that Chepiga and Skripal, a former GRU officer, knew each other. If so, it would add a personal element to the nerve agent attack. Skripal also served in Afghanistan, although not in a special forces unit but with Soviet Airborne Troops and many years earlier.

Skripal and his daughter survived the March nerve-agent attack, but a local woman not connected to the original attack died in July after being exposed to the same toxin, which was contained in a discarded perfume bottle dumped in a trash bin.

Skripal was a double agent for British intelligence in the 1990s. In December 2004, he was arrested by Russian authorities, tried, convicted of high treason and sentenced to 13 years in prison. He was included in a 2010 spy swap and settled in Salisbury.

Britain, the United States and most European Union countries responded to the Salisbury attack with expulsions of Russian diplomats and financial sanctions on Russia. The Kremlin denies any involvement in the attack and has maintained variously that the poisoning never happened, that it was carried out by Britain in order to blame Russia or that unknown third parties were responsible.

Third Salisbury attack suspect believed to have been identified by police

mikenova shared this story .

A third Russian accomplice alleged to have helped plan the Salisbury nerve agent attack is believed to have been identified by police.

The man, from Russia’s military intelligence service the GRU, is reported to have visited Salisbury ahead of the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The paper said the suspect was likely to have fed back details including the layout of the cul-de-sac where Mr Skripal lived and which door he used to enter and leave.

The Press Association has confirmed that the investigation is looking at several suspects, with a senior Government source stating that there are “at least two”. An exact number has not been confirmed but the source said there were “multiple suspects” being investigated.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: “We will not be discussing any further details in what remains a live investigation.”

UK authorities believe two Russians, using the aliases Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov, smeared the highly toxic Novichok chemical on a door handle at the Wiltshire home of former GRU officer Mr Skripal on March 4.

The attack left Mr Skripal and his daughter critically ill, and Dawn Sturgess, 44, who was later exposed to the same nerve agent, died in July.

On Wednesday, the investigative group Bellingcat identified one of the suspects as Colonel Anatoliy Chepiga – a highly decorated GRU officer.

Bellingcat said it had identified Chepiga, who travelled to the UK with a passport issued in the assumed name of Ruslan Boshirov, by trawling through online records from Russian military academies.

Chepiga’s former commanding officer Alexander Borzhko confirmed that Chepiga fought in Chechnya and received the Hero of Russia medal.

But President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he could find no information about such a person receiving the award.

The Government has declined to comment officially on the report, although it has previously said the two suspects wanted for the attack on the Skripals were GRU officers.

Bellingcat is reportedly close to identifying the second suspect.

The Kremlin says it expects Britain to say what it knows about the identity of the two suspects so that Russian officials can launch an investigation.

Mr Peskov said that the allegations made by the British-based investigative group cannot serve as a basis for such an inquiry.

“We can’t have media as our vis-a-vis in such a sensitive case,” he said.

“Such materials should only come from competent sources. From the very start, Russia has offered to conduct a joint investigation, but faced British refusals.”

Meanwhile, the Government dismissed allegations that Russian security services infiltrated the British Embassy in Moscow to obtain visas for the suspected poisoners.

A Home Office spokeswoman said: “We reject these claims entirely.

“Applications of this type would be decided by a visa officer in the UK and not in the British Embassy in Moscow.”

On 4 March 2018, Sergei Skripal, a former Russian military officer and double agent for the UK’s intelligence services, and his daughter Yulia Skripal were poisoned in Salisbury, England, with a Novichok nerve agent, according to official UK sources[3][4] and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).[5] After three weeks in a critical condition, Yulia regained consciousness and was able to speak. She was discharged on 9 April 2018.[6][7] Sergei was also in a critical condition until he regained consciousness one month after the attack. He was discharged from hospital on 18 May 2018.[8][9]

Third suspect in Salisbury Novichok attack ‘identified by security services’

mikenova shared this story .

A third suspect has been identified in the Novichok poisonings of former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury, according to reports.

Investigators believe another Russian military intelligence officer visited the city on a reconnaissance mission prior to the attack in March, the Telegraph reported.

The spotter would have travelled alone to assess the location before Ruslan Boshirov and Alexander Petrov brought toxic nerve agent Novichok into the UK in a perfume bottle.

They are suspected of poisoning Russian defector Skripal and his daughter Yulia by smearing Novichok on his front door before heading back to Moscow.

The Skripals both survived, but local woman Dawn Sturgess died after her partner Charlie Rowley found the perfume bottle used to dispense the poison.

It is believed that security chiefs have identified the new suspect who came to Salisbury to scope out the intended target.

Skripal suspect ‘true identity’ revealed as decorated Russian colonel

Philip Ingram, a former intelligence and security officer, told The Telegraph: “There was almost certainly intelligence on the ground before the attack was carried out, it is what is called a pattern of life study.

“They wouldn’t have turned up at the house and put it on the door handle on a whim.”

It follows reports that security services are investigating four other suspects believed to be linked to the attack – and analysis from a former Russian spy who said kill teams would tend to operate in teams of six.

Ex-spy Boris Karpichkov, 59, told the Mirror that eavesdroppers from Russian spy agency the FSB would have monitored Yulia Skripal’s mobile, email, internet and Skype before she travelled to the UK to meet her father.

The team would have formed a  “Special Operations Group”, or SOG, and cloned the passports of prisoners in other EU states to travel without visas – and some members may still be laying low following the attack.

Suspect Ruslan Boshirov has recently been identified by the investigative journalism bureau Bellingcat as a decorated GRU Colonel, Anatoliy Chepiga – despite repeated claims from Kremlin that his picture “means nothing to us”.

Chepiga, 39, served in wars in Chechnya and Ukraine. He was made a Hero of the Russian Federation by decree of President Vladimir Putin in 2014.

Prime Minister Theresa May damned Russia for the attack at an address to the UN Security Council on Tuesday.

She said: “We have taken appropriate action, with our allies, and we will continue to take the necessary steps to ensure our collective security.

“Russia has only sought to obfuscate through desperate fabrication.”

Moscow continues to deny claims of involvement, as officials called out Mrs May for refusing to present her evidence to them.

The country’s Ambassador to London, Alexander Yakovenko, tweeted yesterday, quoting Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov: “London arrogantly demands that we take responsibility for the crime just because they have some “evidence” no one has ever seen and they would not present it to the public. Frankly speaking, this is just childish.

“London violates at least three or four treaties and refuses to answer any questions. As for me, it is a clear sign of guilty conscience.”

The Russian embassy said in a statement: “The UK is refusing to provide the Russian investigation with any information or evidence gathered by British Police when working on the Salisbury incident.

“British authorities (earlier) announced that they did not intend to pursue extradition of the “suspects” and made it clear that they were not interested in submitting their own requests for legal assistance, which could be provided by means of interrogation of certain persons, provision of access to documents, etc.”

A Home Office spokeswoman said: “We set out our position clearly this month. The Police and CPS have identified two men as the prime suspects in the attack in Salisbury. We have repeatedly asked Russia to account for what happened in Salisbury in March, and they have replied with obfuscation and lies.

“We want these men to face justice in the UK and have taken steps to ensure that if they ever leave Russia in the future they can be arrested, detained and brought to the UK.”

Russia ‘influenced UK embassy into giving Skripal assassins visas’

mikenova shared this story from News | Mail Online.

Russian secret services were today accused of influencing staff inside the British embassy to secure visas for the two men they sent to kill Sergei Skripal with novichok.

Investigators say they have evidence the Kremlin ‘manipulated people’ working for the UK’s consulate in Moscow to ensure their assassins were handed UK business visas for their Salisbury murder mission.

Roman Dobrokhotov, one of those working for Bellingcat, said today that even basic searches show the men masquerading as sport nutritionists have ‘no business history’ in Russia.

He said: ‘Our theory is that Russian security services obtained some access to the British embassy.

‘It’s not just manipulation in that they changed their documents somewhere, it is direct influence that Russian security services had on those people who were participating in this scheme of making visas.’

Ruslan Boshirov and Alexander Petrov entered Britain unchallenged in March carrying enough novichok to kill 4,000 people in a perfume bottle before fleeing the country 55 hours later having smeared it on Skripal’s front door.

Last night suspect Boshirov was outed as Anatoly Chepiga, a colonel in Putin’s feared special forces army who the President personally made a ‘Hero of Russia’ for missions in Chechnya and Ukraine.

The Kremlin said today it was looking into the reports. ‘Many people look alike, but I cannot tell you who this citizen who was pointed out in this investigation is,’ spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

Residents of Chepiga’s home town in Russia’s far east have since told Russian media they suspected he worked for the secret services because not even his family were told where he was posted.

Petrov is believed to be a GRU Army captain travelling under his first name but on an alias surname and passport handed to him by Kremlin spymasters two years ago.

Mr Dobrokhotov said of Chepiga: ‘He went to Britain with a business visa and that is very difficult to make.

‘You have to have a lot of papers proving that you really have business and he didn’t have any business.

‘Our theory is that Russian security services obtained some access to the British embassy and the next part of our investigation will be directed at this topic; how Russian security services managed to manipulate the British embassy to make their agents get to British ground.’

A Home Office spokesman said: ‘We reject these claims entirely. Applications of this type would be decided by a visa officer in the UK and not in the British Embassy in Moscow.’

President Putin (pictured today meeting zerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev) denied the would-be assassins were working for the Russian government

Experts believe Colonel Chepiga may have known Skripal and personally wanted to kill him because of the GRU’s entrenched hatred of traitors.

Moscow today tried to smear the compelling evidence and said top secret documents and photographs unmasking the men were ‘pure nonsense’.

The Russian Embassy in London also suggested that British-based Bellingcat, whose investigators found the men by examining military records, leaked resident databases and passport files, is actually sponsored by MI6.

Putin gave 39-year-old Chepiga, who had served in Chechnya and Ukraine with the Spetsnaz batallion, Russia‘s highest bravery honour in 2014 – under his real name – suggesting that the President may know him personally.

Timeline: The rise of Putin’s ‘Hero of Russia’ who fluffed Salisbury murder mission

May 5, 1979: Anatoliy Vladimirovich Chepiga is born Nikolaevka close to Russia’s border with China, 5,000 miles from Moscow.

1997: 18-year-old is signed up to join Russia’s Army in its far-eastern headquarters and graduates with honours four years later.

2001:  Chepiga joins the Spetsnatz Brigade – Russia’s feared secret service Army often compared to the SAS three years before Sergei Skripal’s arrest for treason.

2001-2008: He spends three long periods fighting in Chechnya and handed 20 medals

2009: Chepiga’s transition to GRU spy begins when he is handed the alias Ruslan Boshirov and the documents to back it up.

2014: Putin makes Chepiga a ‘Hero of Russia’ – the country’s highest award – for an unnamed mission referred to in records as ‘peacekeeping’

2016: Chepiga travels abroad for the first time as Boshirov, under the guise as a businessman with Salisbury partner Petrov and the pair criss-cross Europe.

2018: The men turn up on Salisbury to kill Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia by smearing Novichok on his front door. But they bungle the operation and flee back to Russia.

But foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova today branded the revelations a ‘series of fibs’ and state-sponsored press including Pravda have claimed the document leak is part of a western conspiracy cooked up by ‘traitors’.

Ms Zakharova said today that Britain has ‘no evidence and that is why they continue the information campaign the goal of which is distract attention from the key question: what did really happen in Salisbury?’.

But yesterday Defence Secretary tweeted a link to the Bellingcat research and said it showed the ‘true identity of one of the Salisbury suspects’ – only to delete it seconds later.

Moscow today pointed this out as proof Britain is not sure – and retired FSB major-general Alexander Mikhailov – a former spokesman for the FSB secret service – said: ‘It is pure nonsense. How could secret documents happen to be publicly accessible?

He said: ‘ I can draw a dozen such pictures with Theresa May photograph.

‘And, seriously, these days the British media with the help from traitors will blow lots of smoke’.

Meanwhile, pro-Kremlin newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda (KP) pointed to alleged mistakes in the Bellingcat claims.

Citing a serving but anonymous Russian military source, the newspaper said the photograph of Chepiga ‘really looks like’ a picture of the young Boshirov.

But researchers claim the ‘first mistake’ is in claiming that Chepiga graduated from military college in the Russian Far East are four years.

‘It just can’t be true, the course was years long at that time,, and he had to graduate in 2002.

‘And it is strange why he went to study at 18 – what was he up to for a full year, when he finished his school at 17?’

Mystery of Defence Secretary’s deleted tweet: Gavin Williamson hails revelation of Salisbury suspect’s ‘true identity’… then hastily removes post

Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson last night confirmed that the Salisbury assassin was a Russian colonel – only to delete his tweet seconds later.

Mr Williamson has not commented on. his confirmation

He briefly confirmed the story on social media and wrote: ‘The true identity of one of the Salisbury suspects has been revealed to be a Russian Colonel. I want to thank all the people who are working so tirelessly on this case.’

But withing a minute it was gone.

The Ministry of Defence said Mr Williamson’s social media profile was personal and it did not know why the tweet was deleted.

Scotland Yard declined to comment.

‘But this is not true. This army unit at that time was based in Ussuriysk – 670 km away from Khabarovsk’, he said.

He was also reported to have attended the Military-Diplomatic Academy of Defence Ministry known in the secret services as the ‘music academy’.

Here, it is claimed, he got his second identity as Boshirov.

‘Next time Chepiga’s name comes out in December 2014 when he got his Hero of Russia award for performing some peacekeeping mission,’ said KP.

‘According to the researchers, the 14th brigade – where Chepiga was still listed for some reason – was spotted near Ukrainian border at the end of 2014.’

The Kremlin was branded shameful last night for claiming Chepiga and his unknown accomplice, who used the alias Alexander Petrov, were holidaymakers.

Boris Johnson tweeted: ‘Utterly predictable news that GRU is behind Skripal atrocity.’

The former foreign secretary added: ‘What have you got to say, Putin?’

The two Russian agents were charged over the poisonings by the Crown Prosecution Service earlier this month.

But they later appeared on Russian TV to insist they were visiting Salisbury for its cathedral.

As the bungled attack that left one dead and three seriously ill took another twist: It emerged that Chepiga fought for a feared Spetsnaz unit for 17 years and worked undercover for at least nine.

Salisbury assassin is colonel in Putin’s brutal special forces army the Spetsnaz Brigade

  • Copy link to paste in your message

Spetsnaz have a terrifying reputation, built in recent years while conducting seek-and-destroy missions.

In modern times many have become jihadi hunters tracing and murdering extremists who committed atrocities against Russian troops in Syria and Chechnya (pictured).

There were reports Spetsnaz were behind the shooting down of flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine because a GRU officer was linked to the ‘procurement and transport’ of the weapons used.

Their elite soldiers are trained fight on ground, in the air and even under water.

The feared batallions is based in a headquarters nicknamed The Aquarium on an airbase near Moscow and is very large, deploying six times as many agents in foreign countries as the SVR. These are typically embedded in Russian embassies as military attaches and work on recruiting foreign double agents as well as monitoring military installations and new weapons systems.

In 1997 it was estimated to have 25,000 Spetsnaz soldiers under its command. Their legend has trickled down through the agency, with many desk-bound agents claiming to have a special-forces background even if they do not.

Many agents do have a military background, though, such as Sergei Skripal, who was recruited after serving in the Soviet army and ended up passing secrets to MI6.

There is also a large signals intelligence branch (like our GCHQ) with about 130 satellites orbiting the Earth and a corresponding branch that analyses the resulting visual images.

There are also specialist sub-departments for sophisticated cyber warfare, which recruit from Russia’s top universities.

Sources said the soldier’s high rank – the same as his intended victim, Colonel Sergei Skripal – suggested the attack was sanctioned at the highest level.

Did Salisbury hitman have a personal vendetta against Skripal? Would-be assassin ‘may have poisoned ex-spy for being disloyal to the GRU’

Experts believe Colonel Chepiga may have known Skripal and personally wanted to kill him because of the GRU’s entrenched hatred of traitors.

Both men were highly decorated veterans of Russia’s wars and followed similar paths to the higher echelons of Russia’s military secret services.

The GRU was betrayed by Mr Skripal before he was jailed and sent to the UK in a spy swap. He and his daughter were poisoned in March in Salisbury.

GRU recruits are shown videos of traitors being burned alive as part of their training to instill an entrenched hatred of them.

It is possible that Chepiga was handpicked for the job – or even volunteered – to ensure Skripal received the ‘ultimate punishment’.

Chepiga was made an elite special forces soldier in 2001 – three years before Skripal’s arrest for treason – so it is possible the men may have men.

Senior politicians queued up to accuse the Russians of being ‘seriously dishonest’ and lying about their complicity.

The identity of Chepiga was uncovered by investigative organisation Bellingcat, best known for its insight into the fighting in Ukraine.

It found that Chepiga has won more than 20 awards and a Hero of the Russian Federation medal during his illustrious military career.

Born in the isolated village of Nikolayevka, on the Russian-Chinese border in 1979, he is married with a teenage son.

In 2001 he graduated from the Far-Eastern Military Command Academy before being deployed to Chechnya three times.

Its website states: ‘Anatoly Vladimirovich Chepiga was awarded the honorary title of Hero of the Russian Federation by order of the president of the Russian Federation.’

His name appears under a gold star honour list on a monument to academy alumni at a base near the Chinese border.

The medals are normally awarded by the president personally, and are given only to a handful of people each year.

Unlike most recipients there is little public information about Chepiga’s life and official documents are marked ‘top secret’.

The secretive nature of the award, combined with its timing in 2014, suggests it was for actions in Ukraine. His Spetsnaz unit was pictured on the eastern Ukraine border.

Investigators also found documents that trace Chepiga’s movements around Russia and Europe.

He pops up at a remote military unit and in Moscow where he is likely to have studied at the Military Diplomatic Academy, or ‘GRU Conservatory’.

The GRU was betrayed by Mr Skripal before he was jailed and sent to the UK in a spy swap. He and his daughter were poisoned in March in Salisbury.

Chepiga and Petrov are also accused of murdering Dawn Sturgess, who was inadvertently poisoned when she discovered a perfume bottle filled with the deadly novichok nerve agent used on the Skripals.

Tom Tugendhat, who chairs the Commons foreign affairs committee, said: ‘It is confirmation of what we have known for a long time – that Russia is serially dishonest in its foreign affairs and has again lied about its complicity.

‘These guys are amateurs. Their cover couldn’t even survive investigation by newspapers.’

The dark star of Russia’s elite special forces school: Colonel who signed up at 18, was honoured at gaudy memorial to military and then sent to kill Skripal

The highly-decorated spy blamed for the Salisbury poisonings was a veteran of Russia’s elite special forces and had trained at one of the country’s top military academies, it emerged last night.

The man behind the alias of Boshirov was unmasked by the investigative website as Colonel Chepiga – a GRU intelligence officer bestowed with Russia’s highest state award.

His military career began at the age of 18 when he enrolled in a top military school just 25 miles from his tiny home village of Nikolaevka, near the Russia-China border.

Col Chepiga studied at the Far Eastern Military Command Academy in Blagoveschensk, an elite training ground for ‘Spetsnaz’ special forces officers.

His name features on a memorial wall at the school under the Gold Star honour list. After graduating from the school with honours in 2001, he was assigned to Russia’s 14th Spetsnaz Brigade, based in the far-eastern city of Khabarovsk.

Spetsnaz units are responsible for highly-secretive missions and are equivalent to the British SAS.

Under the command of the GRU, Russia’s military intelligence agency, his brigade played a vital role in the second Chechen war and was also spotted near the Ukrainian border in late 2014.

The information was revealed by investigative website Bellingcat, which had conducted a painstaking investigation into his background.

It said that his unit had deployed three times to Chechnya, where Russia was carrying out what it called a ‘counter-terrorist operation’.

The website of a state-run military volunteer organisation claims that Col Chepiga received more than 20 military awards and decorations in the course of his service.

And his former military school proudly boasts on its website that he was bestowed his homeland’s highest honour, Hero of the Russian Federation, in 2014. The award is often presented by Vladimir Putin himself.

While the achievements of his fellow award-winners are detailed extensively, Col Chepiga’s simply says it was awarded ‘by decree from the Russian president’.

Bellingcat speculated that he could have been given the award for operations in Eastern Ukraine – where Russia’s military was secretly operating in 2014.

Senior Russian military officials have since said that so-called ‘little green men’ – soldiers wearing uniforms with no insignia – were in fact members of Russia’s Spetsnaz deployed secretly to Ukraine.

The Bellingcat website also found an undated photograph of graduates from the Far Eastern Military Command Academy on assignment in Chechnya.

It pointed out that the man on the far right looks strikingly similar to the man named as Boshirov by the Metropolitan Police – although it said it could not prove conclusively it was the same person.

They came across the photograph after sources said the school was a likely place for a Russian military officer with a specialism in Western European operations to have trained.

After further digging, they came across the mysterious Colonel Anatoliy Chepiga. Address databases link him to the Military Unit 20662 – code for the 14th Spetsnaz Brigade.

The logo of the brigade is a black bat with a yellow parachute behind it. It was formed in the 1960s and has been under the command of the GRU for much of its history.

According to Yuri Shvets, a former KGB agent, GRU officers were referred to as ‘boots’ – tough but unsophisticated.

Once a member of the GRU, it is believed to be exceptionally difficult to leave. And those who do so to join foreign agencies are punished savagely.

Viktor Suvorov, a GRU officer who defected to Britain in 1978, said new recruits were shown a video of a traitor from the agency being burned alive in a furnace as a warning.

The GRU has become adept as using so-called ‘non-linear warfare’, which uses a combination of covert special forces operations, spying, cyber attacks and internet trolls to destabilise enemy nations.

It started as an intelligence-gathering agency for Trotsky’s Bolshevik Red Army, and Lenin insisted it remain separate from the other intelligence organisations.

Today it still sits apart from the SVR, the external spying service, and the domestic FSB (the equivalents of Britain’s MI6 and MI5), which were created when the notorious KGB was split in 1991.

How will the West react to proof Putin lied?

Commentary by Owen Matthews

THIS sensational revelation – the seniority of the would-be assassin and the official state support for the mission – shows that the Skripal hit must have been ordered at the very highest levels of the Russian state.

The evidence that Vladimir Putin personally ordered the attack grows stronger every day.

Indeed, by presiding over one of the most farcically inept cover-ups in memory – when the two Russians caught on CCTV here claimed to have been tourists visiting Salisbury cathedral – Putin has condemned himself out of his own mouth.

Days after British police released dozens of security camera images of the pair on their way from Moscow to Salisbury, Putin appeared on Russian television to defend them as ‘innocent Russian citizens about whom we know nothing’. His fingerprints were all over the operation.

The following afternoon, ‘Petrov’ and ‘Boshirov’ themselves appeared to air a cock-and-bull story about being turned back from their mission to see Salisbury by slush – two days in a row.

Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed the two suspects were just civilians and not members of the GRU

Before the denials by Putin and by the suspects themselves, it might have been possible to argue plausibly that the botched assassination attempt was some kind of rogue operation by Russia’s secret services.

But Putin’s personal defence of the suspects and the inept cover-up job by the state-controlled media constitute strong, if wholly unintended, proof of the Kremlin’s deep complicity.

And now the Bellingcat revelations have added incontrovertible layers of detail to the emerging picture of a top-level GRU assassination squad operating on UK soil.

Using mostly open-source data, Bellingcat’s researchers first unearthed details of the passports the suspects used to enter the UK, published by British police.

Petrov and Boshirov’s passport numbers, it turned out, varied by just a single digit – and were issued by a Moscow office used exclusively for officials’ travel documents.

Even more suspiciously, Boshirov’s passport file was stamped ‘Do not reveal information’.

Then, yesterday, came the clincher. By trawling through the records of GRU academy graduation classes, Bellingcat matched the photos of ‘Boshirov’ to the real-life Anatoliy Vladimirovich Chepiga.

Once they had a name, details of Colonel Chepiga’s secret service popped up all over the internet, in online posts by veterans’ groups and even written in letters of gold on a stone monument to the decorated graduates of one of the GRU’s secret intelligence academies.

Chepiga served in Chechnya with the Spetznaz, the elite forces of the Federal Security Service, where by some reports he received 20 awards and decorations.

In short, Putin has been caught out telling analogue lies in a digital world.

Counter-terrorism police released images of two suspects in connection with the Salisbury attack and named them as Alexander Petrov (left) and Ruslan Boshirov (circled right)

Bellingcat became famous for its painstaking investigation into the downing of a Malaysian Airlines Boeing over Eastern Ukraine in July 2014, collecting photos from social media and intelligence data showing the hour-by-hour progress of the Buk missile system which downed the plane, from a military base inside Russia into Eastern Ukraine and back again.

Russia’s vehement denials of involvement were shown to be false. Now, with Bellingcat’s dozens of detailed revelations about the true identity of one of the would-be Skripal assassins, another of the Kremlin’s brazen lies has been carefully picked apart.

Perhaps the most terrifying part of the whole tragic story of the Skripal poisoning, which resulted in the death of an innocent British bystander, is the shocking combination of the Kremlin’s deadly intent and utter incompetence.

Instead of quietly disposing of a ‘traitor’, Chepiga and his as-yet-unnamed accomplice succeeded in contaminating parts of Salisbury, murdering an innocent woman, and revealing themselves to the whole world as bungling idiots.

Attempting extra-judicial execution on British soil is bad enough. But to spread deadly nerve agent around a cathedral city is irresponsible bungling on an epic scale.

The question now, of course, is what the response of the West will be to this damning revelation.

Will Theresa May call for renewed sanctions? Will America ratchet up their rhetoric? We shall have to wait and see in the coming days.

What is clear is that the Kremlin and its henchmen have been revealed for what they are – not just a bunch murderous liars, but terrible at both.

Abwehr The Demiurg

Trump as the “Bad German: Kaiser, Hitler Archetype”

And this is according to the “New Abwehr’s” plot. The Great German Historical Drama of Totalitarianism was relived, reenacted in the reality show format, and demonstrated to the World as the sign of the universal (and not specifically German) human failure, thus mitigating the guilt. This dramatic collective emotional wound was arguably “undone“, in addition to the quite obvious geopolitical benefits. But was it really explored and analysed, understood properly, and will it heal? Was the abscess drained? Was the German and global “catharsis” achieved? Is the drama still ongoing?

The show is run, as I see it now, by the “New Abwehr“, for the lack of a better and more suitable term. It is more than likely, that most of the other major significant developments and operations after the WW2 are related in one way or another to the hypothetical propaganda and influence operations on the grand historical and the spectacular, artistic scales, which was the style of Admiral Canaris, and became the distinctive style of Abwehr, and after the WW2, the “New Abwehr”. This style also appears to be pseudo-scientific, although technically quite advanced, biocentric conceptually, and Jungian in orientation.

Abwehr’s conceptual roots can be traced back to the mid-19 century, namely the emergence of the German General Staff as the independent intellectual and political force and the issues they had to grapple with, such as the Jews in the Military Intelligence Service and the Homosexuality in the military service. These issues, transformed through the prisms of personal lives of Admiral Canaris and Reinhard Heydrich, were eventually conceptualized as the Judeo-phobia and Homophobia, which became the distinctive features of Abwehr, and after the WW2, the “New Abwehr”. Jews and Homosexuals became the easy and convenient scapegoats to blame for the losses, and to vent the universal rage after WW1, and once again after the WW2, in the “New Abwehr’s” information wars, the propaganda and influence operations.

This hypothesis and this phenomenon have to be acknowledged and addressed, they have to be studied, researched, and investigated from the multi-disciplinary perspectives, including the Intelligence Analysis and Psychohistory, in-depth and in details.

The new development, this deft “administrative coup d’état”, can be viewed as another proof that Hitlerism as Trumpism in US is simply impossible, due to significant differences between the German and the American National Characters.

Christopher Wray and Jeff Sessions must clean up FBI corruption or quit

mikenova shared this story from Boston Herald – Boston Herald.

FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Jeff Sessions are sitting squarely in the crosshairs of history.

They must rise to the call of duty and clean up the corruption we are seeing unfold at the FBI or they must tender their resignations and be replaced by real leaders who will do what is necessary to restore public trust in our unraveling justice system.

A powerful government agency that — like the IRS under former President Barack Obama’s watch — was unmistakably weaponized to target political opponents.

The recent shocking revelations that underhanded FBI officials misled the FISA court to get a warrant to spy on Carter Page, an unpaid, low-level volunteer, as a bridge to spy on the Trump campaign and transition team is beyond alarming; it’s flat-out corrupt — police-state tactics seen, ironically, in places like Russia.

You know, that nation Democrats belatedly came to see as the evil empire ever since Donald Trump became president.

Yesterday Trump tweeted, “Congratulations to Judicial Watch and Tom Fitton on being successful in getting the Carter Page FISA documents. As usual they are ridiculously heavily redacted but confirm with little doubt that the Department of ‘Justice’ and FBI misled the courts. Witch Hunt Rigged, A Scam!”

Here are the facts. The feds had Carter Page and his contacts with Russians on their radar for years prior to the 2016 election. If there was any criminal wrongdoing on his part, why isn’t he in custody by now?

Because he didn’t commit any crimes. Page was simply a ruse used by the unscrupulous “Deep State” to derail the current administration at any cost.

Voters know that Americans are allowed to communicate with Russians, do business with Russians and visit Russia. Scores of Americans have done just that, including the Clintons, who raked in millions from Kremlin-backed entities. Again, if hapless Carter Page has broken any laws why is he a free man?

It’s become increasingly evident former FBI Director James Comey worked with the DNC, the Clinton cabal, former CIA Director John Brennan and other Trump-hating officials to attack Trump. They abused their power and should be subject to a special counsel investigation — not the other way around.

It’s time for Wray and Sessions to act, or they’ll be remembered as those who contributed to the unraveling of our justice system by standing on the sidelines.

FISA documents reveal FBI collusion

mikenova shared this story from Boston Herald – Boston Herald.

Our media’s valiant efforts to distract us notwithstanding, information continues to seep out that underscores how badly a housecleaning is needed in Washington, D.C.

Last week saw the release of the applications used to obtain warrants from the FISA court to spy on Carter Page, an adviser to the Trump presidential campaign. Obtained by Judicial Watch, the 400-plus pages of (heavily redacted) documents support the conclusions earlier drawn by the House Intelligence Committee (and denounced by Democrats as hysteria): the FISA warrants were obtained through obfuscation and deceit.

As various commentators predicted would be proven, the bulk of the information that formed the basis for the FISA warrant applications was the “dossier” of allegations about Donald Trump’s activities in Russia. This dossier was provided to the FBI by British spy Christopher Steele. Steele was hired during the 2016 presidential campaign by opposition research firm Fusion GPS, who was paid by Hillary Clinton’s law firm Perkins Coie, who was paid by the Clinton campaign and the DNC. The allegations were scandalous and completely unverified, in violation of federal statutes and FISA court rules.

In other words, the FBI used oppo research paid for by the Democrats as justification for government spying on a political opponent and other Americans.

But there’s more. In another incredible coincidence, Fusion GPS had hired scholar and professor Nellie Ohr as a “paid Russian expert.” Nellie Ohr happens to be married to Bruce Ohr, deputy attorney general in the Justice Department. Bruce Ohr is alleged to have passed his wife’s anti-Trump research to the FBI. He was demoted for failing to disclose not only his wife’s employment with Fusion GPS, but also his own meetings with Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson.

The FISA court was never told any of that. They were never supposed to know. None of us was ever supposed to know.

When thousands of DNC emails were leaked to the public through Julian Assange’s organization WikiLeaks, we learned that Hillary Clinton had abused the primary process, nearly bankrupted the DNC and effectively stole the nomination from Bernie Sanders. We also learned the press played favorites with Clinton, getting her approval before running stories and forwarding debate questions to Clinton in advance. (The official line is Russians hacked the DNC computers and gave the emails to WikiLeaks. Assange and former U.S. and U.K. intelligence officials vehemently deny this, and maintain it was an inside “leak,” not a hack. The DNC refused to turn over their servers to the FBI for inspection.)

And then there is Hillary Clinton’s misuse of a personal email server to handle classified State Department information. We now know that then-FBI director James Comey decided not to prosecute Clinton before the investigation was even concluded. We also know that FBI attorney Peter Strzok rewrote Comey’s initial report to change Comey’s description of Clinton’s conduct from “grossly negligent” — which was a violation of the applicable federal statute — to “extremely careless.”

This is the same Peter Strzok who expressed his loathing for Donald Trump in many of the tens of thousands of texts he exchanged with his lover and fellow FBI attorney Lisa Page. Strzok infamously assured Page that they had an “insurance policy” and that they “would stop” Trump from becoming president. At a congressional hearing two weeks ago, Strzok arrogantly insisted that his bias did not affect his job performance.

He must think we’re all idiots.

But then, we were never supposed to know any of this.

Hillary Clinton was supposed to win. No one would know the FBI “investigation” into her violations of federal statutes was a foregone conclusion that would exonerate her. No one would know that members of the FBI and the DOJ were using their government powers to attack and discredit the man who wasn’t “supposed” to win, but did.

Trump’s unorthodox presidency has been a great gift. It has exposed the corruption in our government, and the betrayal of the American public by so much of the press.

Valpo man charged with child porn after turning himself in when phone locks up with “FBI” warning | Crime and Courts

mikenova shared this story from www.nwitimes.com – RSS Results in news/local/crime-and-courts of type article.

VALPARAISO — A 22-year-old Valparaiso man is charged with possessing child pornography after turning himself in. His phone locked up with a warning purporting to be from the FBI after he attempted to download a pornographic video, police said.

Joseph Hanvey, of the 2000 block of Calumet Avenue, told police that as he attempted to download the pornographic video involving a child or children at 2 a.m. Wednesday, a message came on his phone stating the video and phone were monitored by the FBI, police said.

Hanvey said his phone then shut down and he was unable to turn it back on. He said he drove around the city for the next two hours looking for a police officer to talk to before showing up at the station.

He admitted to viewing several images of child pornography and saved several to his phone, police said.

Police said they recognized the “FBI” disclaimer as a common computer virus rather than an official notice from the FBI. The virus typically causes an electronic device to lock up until the user makes some sort of payment via a gift or credit card, police said.

Police said they recovered several images of child pornography from Hanvey’s phone.

Hanvey is charged with a single felony charge of possessing child pornography.

The Joker-Demiurge does not like the so called (and called by him apparently, through the minor actors who were deliberately exposed) “Hapsburg Group” which is a group of retired or semi-retired functionaries of the European Social Democratic parties. They are his competitors. They are the “spent force“, as he sees them, the group of the political degenerates with the symbolic “Habsburg Jaw“, the sign of their degeneration.

The situation might be even more complex. On the basis of my interpretation of some of the Leon Trotsky articles during the WWI, I formed the impression that it was him, the Russian (Jewish) Social Democrat Leon Trotsky, who essentially started the WWI, according to the purposes of his own political calculations, by encouraging Gavrilo Princip and his group to perform the anti-Austrian terrorist acts which culminated in the assasination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand

Trotsky in turn, as I understand it, was, most likely, the agent of the Russian General Staff and the Russian Military Intelligence which were itching for the war as the “revanche” for the humiliating defeat in Russo-Japanese War of 1904. His wife, Natalia Sedova, was the daughter of the highly placed Russian General and the North Pole explorer.

Information about this is very limited, probably due to the series of purges of documents, both pro and against Trotsky.

I think that this interpretation and this circumstance explain the intense, almost irrational hatred of Trotsky by the West, and most intensely by the German Intelligence services who blamed him for the Germany’s defeat.

Trotsky was killed by Abwehr, not by Stalin’s NKVD, although at Stalin’s request, most likely as one of the top-secret agreements of the Russian – German non-aggression pact of 1939. Stalin’s agents “tried it” several times, but they essentially did not dare to kill the “Father of the Revolution”. Germans did it because they were afraid of Trotsky, he still could mobilize the Russian Military easily against them at that time.

This historical episode might serve as one of the examples of the German intelligence habits, and the trait of the masterful use of covers and fronts.

Today, in operation “Trump”, they use the Russians and the Israelis as their covers and fronts, their former enemies. It is double sweet, double pleasure, double mint gum for them.

Yesterday in operation “9/11” they used the double cover of Arabs, and the Russians behind the Arabs.

M.N.: So, this is the brief and the partial background of the European Social Democracy, which was said to be “in crisis”, and as pertains to the situation with the “Hapsburg Group”.

Is there a strategy to offset the European Social-Democratic Electoral Decline or “debacle” by intensifying the “negative campaign” against their conservative and “right of the center” opponents, and specifically, is the “Operation Trump” a grand spectacle on the world stage conceived as the new type of the geopolitical performance crime and a show: here you have the Republican American President, a “corrupt mafiosi blob pervert”, his Russian counterpart, the well known “Mafia Godfather”, etc., etc. And we, the great German Social Democrats are so clean and so green, and so go-u-u-u-t, and so peaceful, and so tolerant, and so loving.

Did we send those Saudi Arabs to you to perform the 9/11 spectacle? Wake up! Take some Valium! They came to you at their own volition. Free will, so to speak. We, the new Germans, are not your old “blond bestias”, we are the new “blond bestias”, but we still do reshpect the free will!

How could we force the Russians to powder your brains through your social media? Did we pay for it? Show us the receipts. We, the Germans, always keep all sorts of receipts, especially the historical ones. It’s your own brains  that are at fault, you powder them yourselves with your kiky propaganda.

And so on, and so on; the unbreakable German square emotional design. The Gestalt. The Pattern. The Style.

And on the top of it would be: “If not for our noble and healthy German stock that sustains America, our valiant Arian Princes, (and some of them quite E-rik-y too now) your Semites would burn all your Yosemites.”

Ain’t zis enough for the strategy explanation?

Table 2: The 2017-18 Social Democratic Electoral Debacle

Note: Data Is From The Last Two National Parliamentary Elections. Figures For France Are From The Second Round Of Legislative Elections. For The Italian Democratic Party, Figures For The Centre-Left Coalition Are Presented And Therefore It Is Not Possible To Accurately Calculate The Change In Vote Share Percentage.

“While the halcyon days of the social democrats were in the late 1990s, they have been suffering electorally in recent years. At their peak, parties or coalitions with leadership from them governed twelve of the then fifteen EU countries. However, by 2006, the number of left-led governments in those countries fell to fewer than five. Their centrist shift in the 1990s eroded their traditional voter base while the centrist voters had low attachment to them and soon deserted them.

A larger problem might be looming – they are running out of ideas.

Their solution to modern capitalism has been a centrist shift (for example the Third Way in the UK and the German ‘’Neue Mitte’’) which is largely borrowed from the ideology of neoliberalism.

Simply put, they lack original ideas of their own.

…The centre-left working class vote is no longer stable, with social democratic parties losing support to both radical right and left-wing parties alike. Two key events in the form of the 2008-2013 economic crisis and the ongoing migration crisis have further precipitated the electoral slide of social democratic parties across Europe. The twenty-first century has been a turbulent time for Europe’s social democrats, and this volatility is likely to continue in the coming years ahead.”

M.N., continued:

According to the Demiurge, the “Hapsburg Group” are the corrupt bribe-takers, manipulated by the shrewd American political operative, Paul Manafort who is presented as the corrupt degenerate also.

This lowly Austrian “Hapsburg Group” is symbolically counterpoised by the “princely Hohenzollern Group“, a product of the SPD, (Social Democratic Party of Germany), a Great Grandmother of all social democratic parties.

The “local geopolitical” aspect, racially tinged, might also be present: the implied superiority of North-Western, Baltic, “true Germans” (Uhrlau and Schroeder are both from that region), in comparison with the “south-eastern”, Austrian, “degenerated Germans” (recall Hitler’s origins, too).

This interpretation is consistent with the “German Hypothesis” of the operations “Trump” and “9/11”, and more specifically, with the hypothesis of Uhrlau-Schroeder duo (and others) as the secret “Demiurge”, the ultimate manager of the World’s  political affairs.

On a more prosaic note, it should be noted that the name “Hapsburg group” also applies to alcohol, absinthe:

Recall that vodka also acquired some romantic brand recently, the “Novichok”:

Image result for Novichok vodka

This might be more than a coincidence. Is the Russian Jewish Mafia which controls the alcohol business, trying to promote their new, “sexy”, and exotic brands, really on a cheap, or as a “side product”?

Wo da u zink, Herr Uhrlau? Did they apply for a loan lately in your Deutsche Bank Laundromat?

Oh, pardon me. It should be phrased: The Deutsche Bank cum Gestapo, cum Abwehr, cum BND, cum The Great Joker-Demiurge – the legendary German Intelligence, and the Two Great Germans (the sculptors of the world, start submitting your grant proposals for the monument), Ernst Uhrlau and Gerhard Shroeder

Well, “America is bigger than the White House”, you are right, Mr. Heiko Maas (the future leader of SPD? They, he and Schroeder, already started bickering and fighting for the SPD leadership.)

And Germany is bigger than the two political “degenerates”, even if they imagine themselves the Great Joker-Demiurge. Or Meshuggah-Joker-Demiurge, to be exact. I have a good treatment plan for you: you should definitely taste your own medicine.

___________________________________

The “Meshuggah-Joker-Demiurge”, whoever and/or whatever it is, has to be completely, to the bones, investigated, understood conceptually in the legal and the common sense terms, and this phenomenon has to be exposed and explained (including the broad public) as completely as possible, but not to be “explained away”.

Bring Germany to her right place, where she belongs: at America’s heel. This is the step one. The other steps will logically follow. This is the only and the predominant world’s strategy for the past 100 years or so.

My impression is, be it right or wrong, that lately the overt political agenda of the German Social Democracy, which is, no doubt, the social historical Institution in its own right, serves as the cover and the front for the covertly nationalist and the quasi-fascist agenda of some politicians and the political parties. Were they penetrated by the ex-Nazis or neo-Nazis? I think that ziz iz a goot question to look into.

M.N.: This may or may not necessarily be so, it might depend on the opinion. But I must say that Donald Trump was absolutely correct in pointing out the hypocritical nature of the German – Russian Relations as of late (around the time of the unification of Germany, and increasingly so after 1991), and the specific role of the ex-Chancellor Schroeder (and therefore the role of Ernst Uhrlau, because they are in the same political team).

America does not play her side in the US – Germany – Russia triangle that well, perhaps due to the lack of historical experience and the desire to be the great imperial power.

This side has to be played to the max, it is simply the mechanical law of the political universe.

The Mueller Investigation, Explained. Here’s Your Guide To The Trump-Russia Probe.

mikenova shared this story .

Let’s start at the top. When did this Trump-Russia investigation begin? 🇷🇺

Two years, or roughly a million news cycles ago, give or take. The FBI’s original Trump-Russia investigation got underway in the summer before the 2016 campaign, though the public wasn’t really aware of it then. (In contrast to the extremely public FBI investigation of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server, the bureau followed protocol and never publicly acknowledged that Donald Trump’s presidential campaign was under investigation for its ties to a hostile foreign government.)

The little reporting on the probe at the time underplayed the gravity of the investigation. Not long before the election, The New York Times said in a piece titled “Investigating Donald Trump, F.B.I. Sees No Clear Link to Russia,” that investigators had not “found any conclusive or direct link between Mr. Trump and the Russian government.”

It wasn’t until long after Trump’s election that then-FBI Director James Comey in March 2017 publicly confirmed the bureau’s investigation of connections between Trump associates and the Russian government. The Times later admitted that its pre-election story “gave an air of finality to an investigation that was just beginning” and buried the key fact of the investigation into the Trump campaign’s Russia ties.

When and why did Robert Mueller get involved in all this? 🚨

In May 2017, Trump fired Comey, and said a day later that Russia was on his mind when he made the decision. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was overseeing the Russia probe at the time because Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from any investigations involving the Trump campaign (Sessions’ recusal decision came amid public pressure over his failure to disclose that he met with the Russian ambassador during the Trump campaign).

With the bureau in turmoil over Comey’s firing, Rosenstein named Robert Swan Mueller III (aka “Bobby Three Sticks”) as special counsel on May 17, 2017. That day, Mueller issued the only public statement he’s issued since he took the job: “I accept this responsibility and will discharge it to the best of my ability.”

Rosenstein said at the time that his decision was based on the unique circumstances of the situation. He said that the “public interest requires me to place this investigation under the authority of a person who exercises a degree of independence from the normal chain of command.”

Hold on, didn’t Rosenstein have something to do with Comey’s firing?

Yup. Rosenstein, at Trump’s request, wrote a legal memo that made the case for Comey’s firing. Ironically, while Trump long insisted that Comey went too easy on Hillary Clinton, Rosenstein’s case was that Comey’s public declarations about the Clinton email investigation during the 2016 campaign were unfair and violated Justice Department protocol. It probably didn’t matter a ton, because Trump said he was going to fire Comey no matter what Rosenstein’s letter said. But that was the official story the White House tried selling: that Trump fired Comey because he was unfair to Clinton. Rosenstein, meanwhile, was reportedly upset that the White House cast him as the guy who instigated Comey’s firing.

What’s Robert Mueller’s job?

Rosenstein’s memo tasked Mueller with investigating “any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump,” as well as “any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation.”

Illustration: HuffPost; Photo: Reuters

So what is a special counsel, anyway?

A lot like a regular prosecutor, but they have a bit more independence from the normal chain of command. Federal regulations say that a special counsel can be appointed if there’s a conflict of interest or there are “extraordinary circumstances.”

A special counsel isn’t the same as an independent counsel, the type of investigation aimed at former President Bill Clinton. The independent counsel statute expired in 1999, and a special counsel isn’t quite as independent as an independent counsel. Mueller, as special counsel, reports to Rosenstein. But the special counsel regulations don’t allow Mueller to be fired as special counsel without good cause.

Didn’t the White House claim Trump could fire Robert Mueller, though?

They did. It’s a bit of a murky legal issue. A more plausible scenario is that Trump could order Rosenstein to fire Mueller, which Rosenstein would almost certainly refuse to do. It would set up a situation similar to Nixon’s “Saturday Night Massacre,” in which the president has to work down the chain of command ― via firings or resignations ― until he finds someone willing to carry out his order.

Some Republicans have indicated they wouldn’t stand for Trump firing Mueller. Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa said it would be “suicide.” But prominent Trump backers have engaged in a lengthy campaignagainst the Mueller probe that has convinced many Trump supporters that the president is being unfairly persecuted by the “deep state.” That would give Trump at least some political cover to fire Mueller.

What’s Robert Mueller’s deal again?

Well, he’s a Republican, for starters. And ― at least until he took on the special counsel gig ― politicians on both sides of the aisle were pretty big fans.

Mueller is a Princeton grad and a highly decorated Marine Corps officer who served in Vietnam. He spent most of his career in the Justice Department. President Ronald Reagan tapped him to serve as U.S. attorney for the District of Massachusetts, and he later headed the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, a key role in which he oversaw hundreds of attorneys and supervised major prosecutions. After President Bill Clinton’s election, Mueller did what a lot of D.C. lawyers do when their party is out of power: He took a corporate law gig.

Sounds pretty typical.

It was. But Mueller wasn’t long for the corporate world. He soon rang up Eric Holder, who was then serving as U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, a unique office in that it prosecutes both federal and local crimes in the nation’s capital. Washington had a really high homicide rate at the time, and Mueller wanted to run murder cases. He “became the oldest and most improbable rookie in the history of the homicide bureau,” and later headed up the office’s homicide section.

Mueller was then named U.S. attorney for the Northern District of California, where he served until his party took back power and the George W. Bush administration asked him to serve as acting deputy attorney general, the No. 2 spot at the Justice Department. Bush later nominated him as FBI director, and he started the gig a week before the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, which sparked the transformation of the bureau into a counterterrorism agency.

Mueller was so well-respected that the Senate unanimously extended his 10-year term as FBI director for an additional two years back in 2011. Mueller stepped down as FBI director in 2013, after the longest tenure of any FBI director since J. Edgar Hoover.

He totally raked in the dough when he jumped back to the private sector, didn’t he? 💰💰💰

He did. Mueller left his WilmerHale salary behind when he was named as special counsel, and he also managed to convince a few colleagues at his former law firm to give up their lucrative gigs and join his team.

All right, but what about this Rosenstein guy? Trump and Fox News hosts don’t seem to like him very much. Is he a Democrat?

You sure?

Yes. He’s a lifelong Republican. He even wrote a letter to his college newspaper complaining about its “disgraceful” attitude toward Reagan supporters and urging it to “recognize and respect the appeal Reagan has to the average American.” Early in his career, Rosenstein worked with fellow Republican Ken Starr, the independent counsel who investigated Bill Clinton.

But Trump said Rosenstein is from Baltimore and that there weren’t many Republicans from Baltimore.

Rosenstein is not from Baltimore. He’s lived in the D.C. suburb of Bethesda, Maryland, for years. He worked out of an office in Baltimore when he was U.S. attorney for the District of Maryland, a position he was first appointed to by President George W. Bush (who later nominated Rosenstein as a federal appeals court judge).

Another pretty solid indication that Rosenstein is a Republican? The fact that Republican President Donald Trump nominated him to the critical second-in-command position at the Justice Department.

So why are Trump supporters beating up on a Republican like Rosenstein? 🐘

Put simply, to protect Trump. Rosenstein is the guy overseeing the Mueller probe, which Trump has called a “witch hunt.” So, under the guise of congressional oversight, they’ve been making Rosenstein a target. Unlike Trump, Rosenstein respects the traditional divisions between the White House and the Justice Department.

What’s this about impeaching Rosenstein? Can you even impeach a deputy attorney general?

House Republicans have talked about holding Rosenstein in contempt, and for months have even floated the idea of impeaching him. Some of Trump’s biggest supporters on Capitol Hill did end up introducing articles of impeachment against Rosenstein in late July. Impeachment ― which the Constitution associates with treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors ― is obviously really rare, and it’s even more rare for non-presidents. The last time a member of the executive branch who wasn’t the president was impeached by the House was way back in 1876. Raising the prospect of impeaching the No. 2 official at the Justice Department over a document dispute is quite extraordinary. House Speaker Paul Ryan said he’s not on board.

OK, Mueller and Rosenstein are both Republicans. So what’s all this about Mueller’s team being a bunch of Democrats?

It’s true that there are a number of registered Democrats on Mueller’s team. The Washington Post foundthat 13 of 17 people had previously registered as Democrats and that nine had donated to Democrats. Six had donated to Hillary Clinton.

But it’s important to look at that statistic in context. Federal prosecutors are allowed to take part in a number of political activities when they’re off the clock, and there’s supposed to be a tradition of federal prosecutors leaving their politics at the door. Mueller also wasn’t supposed to take political affiliation into consideration when making hiring decisions. And the fact that the entire investigation is being run by a Republican and is overseen by a Republican ― who Trump himself nominated ― kind of undermines that talking point.

So how much has the Mueller investigation cost?

Roughly $7.7 million as of March 31. That’s around what the federal government spends in a typical minute. The Justice Department’s budget for 2018 was $28.1 billion.

What’s Mueller got to show for it?

A whole bunch of indictments and several guilty pleas. Mueller’s team has been involved in indicting 32 people and three Russian companies. Mueller’s team has secured the indictments of four Trump campaign officials: Paul Manafort, Richard Gates, George Papadopoulos and Michael Flynn. All but Manafort have reached plea deals. One of Manafort’s two trials (it’s complicated) is set to begin later this month.

The majority of those charged in the Mueller probe ― 26 Russian nationals ― are unlikely to show up in an American court anytime soon. But two major indictments this year offered an outline of major Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 election.

One of the indictments was about Russian Facebook and Twitter trolls, right? 💻

Right. So back in February, a federal grand jury indicted 13 Russians charged in a conspiracy to influence the 2016 election through their use of social media. The grand jury found there was probable cause that the Russians posed as Americans and purchased political advertisements and organized political rallies with the aim of boosting Trump and disparaging Clinton.

It’s a pretty fascinating case. The indictment alleges that the Russians had a multimillion-dollar operation aimed at conducting “information warfare against the United States of America.” They pretended to be Americans and set up groups and pages that addressed divisive political and social issues, with names like “Secured Borders,” “Blacktivist,” “United Muslims of America,” “Army of Jesus,” “South United” and “Heart of Texas.” They racked up hundreds of thousands of followers. The specialists running the pages were told to use any opportunity to criticize Hillary Clinton. One Russian-run account called “Woke Blacks” encouraged followers not to vote for “Killary”: “We cannot resort to the lesser of two devils.” The post said that blacks would be better off not voting.

How will Trump’s administration impact you?

The Russians also allegedly paid actual Americans to engage in anti-Clinton protests, including an American who was paid to show up to portray Clinton in a prison uniform at a rally in West Palm Beach, Florida. They also worked with “unwitting individuals associated with the Trump Campaign” who were unaware of their true Russian identities.

How much of an effect did Russian trolling on social media have on the 2016 election?🕵

That’s really tough to say. But the Russian propaganda efforts reached a ton of Americans. One example: Their advertisement for a “Florida Goes Trump” rally reached over 59,000 Facebook users in Florida and got clicks from more than 8,300 Facebook users, according to the indictment. One Russian-run Twitter account impersonating the Republican Party in Tennessee had more than 100,000 followers. The Russians posted a lot of Breitbart stories. Beyond what’s spelled out in the indictment, we know that Facebook says Russian efforts on Facebook and Instagram reached at least 146 million people.

What about the hacking of the DNC and the Clinton campaign?

It had long been clear that the U.S. government had concluded that Russia was behind the hacks. But the indictment, which came down days before Trump’s July 16 meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, offered up the most detailed look at the Russian campaign to date, and specifically alleged that two online personas ― DCLeaks and Guccifer 2.0 ― were in fact operated by Russians.

Intriguingly, the indictment also said that on the very same day Trump called on Russia to “find” 30,000 Clinton emails, July 27, 2016, that the Russians worked “after hours” to try to hack email accounts hosted by a third-party email provider that was used by Clinton’s personal office.

So how did that Russian hacking affect the election?

Again, that’s tough to quantify. We do know that email hacks had a tremendous effect on news coverage of the 2016 campaign. DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned just days after hacked emails showed DNC officials deriding Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential primary campaign. The hacking of Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s Gmail account provided plenty of fodder for journalists with revelations about Clinton’s Wall Street speeches; discussions about Catholicism; and Donna Brazile sending questions CNN planned to ask to the Clinton campaign. So the hacks led to news coverage that definitely had a significant effect on the coverage of the election, it’s just really hard to say precisely how that influenced voters.

Rosenstein said the indictment included “no allegation that the conspiracy altered the vote count or changed any election result.” That’s true, but it also doesn’t really mean much because it’d be weird and irresponsible for the feds to speculate about the effect of Russian interference on voters’ minds.

So how does Paul Manafort play into the Trump-Russia probe again?

Manafort is the former chairman of Trump’s presidential campaign and had a long history in Republican politics. He surrendered to the feds in late October 2017 after a federal grand jury indicted him on a wide range of charges related to his work on behalf of the Ukrainian government. Manafort’s bail was revoked in June after he was charged with obstruction of justice and witness tampering.

The charges against Manafort aren’t directly related to his work for the Trump campaign, but the charges were widely seen as a way for Mueller to get valuable information out of Manafort. He had close ties to Russians and sat in on an infamous Trump Tower meeting in which Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner heard from a Kremlin-linked attorney whom they had expected to give them dirt on Hillary Clinton. She apparently did not.

The case against Manafort is really complex. But it largely deals with his shady work for a pro-Putin political party in Ukraine and evading taxes.

Illustration: HuffPost; Photo: ALEXANDRIA SHERIFF’S OFFICE VIA REUTERS

There was another guy charged with Paul Manafort, right?

Yeah, Rick Gates. He was Manafort’s deputy, and he also worked on the Trump campaign and the Trump inauguration. He’s been cooperating with Mueller’s team since February after he reached a plea deal in which he pleaded guilty to a tax charge and a charge of lying to Mueller’s investigators and the FBI.

What about Michael Flynn?

Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser, has been working with Mueller’s team since December 2017. He pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his talks with the Russian ambassador during the presidential transition. Which is a pretty big deal: a senior Trump administration official has admitted he lied to federal investigators about his talks with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

Illustration: HuffPost; Photo: AARON P. BERNSTEIN VIA GETTY IMAGES

Didn’t Trump try to get James Comey to drop Flynn’s case?

Yes, according to Comey. The former FBI director testified last year that, after Flynn was asked to resign for misleading Vice President Mike Pence about his conversations with the Russian ambassador, Trump privately told Comey he hoped he could “see your way clear to letting this go” and called Flynn a “good guy.”

And how does Michael Cohen play into all this? 💰

It’s related. Mueller’s team isn’t investigating Cohen directly, but the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York reportedly started their probe in part because of a referral from Mueller’s office. Cohen’s disclosure of a secret recording from 2016 that features Trump and Cohen talking about a payment to a Playboy Playmate who said she had an affair with Trump makes clear he could be willing to cut a deal. But since the Cohen investigation isn’t being overseen by Mueller’s team, things might get a little complicated.

Has anyone gone to jail yet?🔒

Just one guy, Alex van der Zwaan. He used to be a London-based lawyer who worked with Gates, Manafort and Konstantin Kilimnik, another Manafort associate who was indicted in June when he and Manafort were accused of witness tampering and obstruction of justice. Van der Zwaan served a bit of time in federal prison and was deported to the Netherlands.

Alright, back to the Trump-Clinton-Russia stuff. What about George Papadopoulos?

George Papadopoulos was actually the first person arrested in the Mueller probe. That happened on July 27, 2017. But Mueller’s team kept the whole thing quiet for three months until it unsealed the caseagainst Papadopoulos the same day Manafort was arrested. Papadopoulos has been cooperating ever since.

The Trump team has said Papadopoulos was merely a campaign “volunteer” and even a “coffee boy.” But during the campaign, Trump described the former campaign policy adviser as an “excellent guy.” There’s also a photo showing Papadopoulos at a meeting with Trump and Sessions in March 2017. Papadopoulos said he indicated during that meeting that he had the connections to set up a meeting between Trump and Putin. Sessions claimed he “pushed back” on the suggestion that Trump campaign officials get together with the Russians, though others have disputed Sessions’ account.

Papadopoulos likely holds answers to a lot of the key questions about the Trump campaign’s relationship with Russia. It was his May 2016 meeting with an Austrian diplomat at a London bar that kicked off the Russia probe. He told the diplomat that he’d met with a professor with ties to the Russians who said the Kremlin had “dirt” on Clinton. That was months before the hacked materials came out.

Papadopoulos admitted that he lied to the FBI about when he was told about Russian “dirt” on Clinton. He said it was before he joined the campaign, but it was in fact about a month after he was on the Trump team.

So what did Trump know about all this? And what about the allegation that Trump obstructed justice?

What exactly Trump knew about Russian efforts to undermine the 2016 election is still an open question. Trump, of course, has long insisted there was “no collusion” while also routinely rejecting or undercutting the intelligence community’s universal consensus that Russia was behind the 2016 interference.

But it’s been clear for months that Mueller’s team has been more focused on the question of obstruction. The obstruction case against Trump would center on his alleged attempt to intervene in the Flynn case, his decision to fire Comey and his attempts to get Sessions to reverse his recusal. Mueller’s team even laid out for Trump’s lawyers some of the questions they’d want to ask.

We know Mueller wants to talk to Trump, and Trump has said he welcomes the  interview. His legal team is less excited, though.

It seems increasingly unlikely that the interview will take place. Giuliani recently said that the legal team wasn’t willing to let Trump answer questions about obstruction of justice. They believe that Trump has the power under Article II of the Constitution to appoint and dismiss members of his administration, so he shouldn’t be questioned about his hiring and firing decisions.

HOW’S THIS ALL GONNA END?

Probably not with an indictment of the president, even if Mueller’s team thinks Trump committed a crime. The Justice Department’s view has long been that a president can’t be indicted while in office. There’s some disagreement in legal circles, but Mueller is a by-the-book kind of guy, and there’s little chance he’d break from precedent, even if he thinks Trump broke the law. Plus, the president’s lawyers claimed Mueller’s investigators told them directly that they won’t indict the president.

Well, what’s Mueller’s team going to do then?

Mueller’ team could write a report about the president’s conduct and send it to Congress to potentially be used in impeachment proceedings. Or they could list Trump as an unindicted co-conspirator in court documents. Sending a report to Congress seems more likely. It’s unclear what form that report would take.

But will Congress impeach Trump?

Certainly not as long as it’s under Republican control. You can’t even find many Republican members of Congress willing to say they’d impeach Trump if he pardoned himself. Democrats, too, have been wary of talking too much about impeaching Trump. Ultimately the makeup of Congress after the midterm election and the timing of the Mueller report ― if he issues one ― will be pretty crucial to how this all ends.

So public opinion is pretty important, huh? These Republican attacks on Mueller and Rosenstein and the FBI are starting to make a lot more sense.

Exactly. Giuliani sort of gave away the game during an appearance on CNN in late May, explaining that, while he and Trump supporters had been attacking the special counsel and the Russia investigation, the goal of convincing Americans to “question the legitimacy” of the probe was part of a public relations strategy to protect the president.

“It is for public opinion, because eventually the decision here is going to be impeach, not impeach. Members of Congress, Democrat and Republican, are going to be informed a lot by their constituents. So, our jury is the American ― as it should be ― is the American people,” Giuliani said.

Hohenzollern Group: A princely general store

For centuries, the Hohenzollern have built a branched network of companies and now need more profitable than a private company.

display

J eder business consultant would horrified hands up over your head: Space Technology, wild boars, turbocharger and a ski resort – the Group Prince of Hohenzollern is a real general store. While almost all companies concentrate on their core business, the Prince from Sigmaringen mixes with dozens of industries.

This has been revealed in the 950-year family history of the noble family. And what business consultants say, Karl Friedrich Prince of Hohenzollern does not matter anyway: He would never let one into the house.

The prince employs 3,200 people, most of them in the otherwise structurally weak region around Sigmaringen. And although the economic crisis has hit the group hard, meanwhile, at 600 million euros annual sales will again generate a decent profit, he says.

Without their former political power, the Hohenzollern would never have been able to build this network of companies. Because who had power, he also had land. That was crucial when the use of Bohnerz began 300 years ago. The small, ore-bearing stones lay everywhere in the woods. And since the forests belonged to the Hohenzollerns, the princely family entered the smelting industry on a grand scale. This resulted in metalworking, which today, with sales of € 550 million, is the Group’s mainstay.

The forest – with 15,000 hectares of one of the largest private forests in Europe – has also become an important economic factor due to the increase in timber prices. The marketing of game meat from their own forests and sparkling wine from their own vineyards has developed from the old possessions.

Because the family also owns a mountain in the Bavarian Forest, it also runs a ski resort. And since electricians and carpenters are needed for Sigmaringen anyway, the group also offers its services in these areas.

Above all, however, the Swabian Hohenzollern knew how to preserve their possessions through all these centuries. The Prussian Hohenzollern, from whose line kings and emperors have emerged, lost almost everything in 1918 with the end of the monarchy in Germany. The Swabian Hohenzollern had secured themselves early against the turmoil of history.

But the Hohenzollern Group has not always been around in recent years. When metalworking went into crisis in the 1970s, the group got into serious trouble. Banks urged the Hohenzollern finally to bring a financially strong partner on board. Since 1989, the group has been half owned by the family of entrepreneur Adolf Merckle, who took his own life after miscalculations two years ago.

The management of the Hohenzollern Group was not always professional, admits Prince Karl Friedrich today. He has now employed managers for all business areas, barely interfering with operations and limiting himself to strategic decisions.

So far this has always worked. And it turns out that it will work out at the next generational change. The eldest son, Alexander Erbprinz von Hohenzollern (24), is currently studying international economics and is preparing to follow in his father’s footsteps. “I also asked my daughters, but they waved their thanks,” says Prince Karl Friedrich. With economy none of the three have something to do.
